NEET UG 2026 Counselling: Following the declaration of the NEET UG 2026 results, the full counselling schedule is expected to be released either in the last week of July or early August.

NEET UG 2026 Counselling: Lakhs of candidates who qualified in NEET UG 2026 are awaiting the medical counselling process. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has not yet released the official schedule for counselling. However, the complete schedule is anticipated to be announced during the last week of July (i.e., this week) or early August. It is worth noting that admissions to MBBS, BDS, and other medical courses in government, private, and deemed medical colleges, as well as central institutions across the country, will be conducted through the MCC counselling process.

Round-1 Counselling Likely to Begin in August

Although the MCC has not yet released an official calendar, the tentative schedule suggests that registration and choice filling for Round 1 could commence in the first week of August. Subsequently, the seat allotment results are likely to be declared in mid-August. Candidates allotted a seat will be required to report to their respective colleges between mid-August and the end of August. Following this, Round 2 counselling could take place from the last week of August to mid-September, while Round 3 (the 'Mop-up Round') might be held between mid-September and the end of September. A 'Stray Vacancy Round' for remaining vacant seats is likely to be conducted in October 2026.

Higher Chances of Admission in These MBBS Colleges

There has been an increase in the number of medical seats this year. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 9,911 new MBBS seats for the current academic session. Consequently, the total number of seats across the country has risen to 136,939. These seats will be available across 823 medical colleges (excluding Institutes of National Importance). Of these, 63,296 seats are in government medical colleges, while 73,643 seats are available in private and deemed medical colleges. Twenty-five new medical colleges have also been included in this admission cycle.

According to the data, Karnataka has the highest number of MBBS seats in the country, totaling 15,995. The state also leads in terms of private medical college seats, with 10,995 seats available. Meanwhile, Maharashtra holds the top spot for government medical college seats, with 6,000 government MBBS seats.

How many students qualified for NEET UG 2026?

This year, 2,279,155 candidates registered for NEET UG 2026. Approximately 19.99 lakh candidates appeared for the exam, out of which 1,121,170 qualified. The national success rate stood at 56.08 percent. The top score in the exam was 715, jointly achieved by Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal from Haryana.
