NEET UG 2026 Fee Refund: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a highly important notification for candidates of NEET UG 2026. Following the NEET paper leak controversy, the NTA activated a link on its official website late Friday night to facilitate the refund of application fees for this cancelled examination. Candidates wishing to claim a refund of their application fee can now visit neet.nta.nic.in directly to update their bank account details online.

The NTA has clarified that this window for updating bank details will remain open only from May 22 to May 27, 2026 (until 11:50 PM). No candidate will be granted the opportunity to rectify their data after this deadline. This measure was adopted because many candidates had filled out their NEET UG 2026 application forms at cyber cafes or Common Service Centers (CSCs), raising concerns that the refund amounts might inadvertently be credited to those third-party accounts. Candidates can now opt to receive the refund directly into their own bank accounts or those of their parents.

**Funds Will Not Be Credited to Cyber Cafe Accounts**

It is frequently observed that candidates for competitive examinations do not fill out their application forms personally but instead visit cyber cafes or computer centers to have them filled out. In such instances, the application fee is often paid using the debit or credit card belonging to the cyber cafe operator. Recognizing this potential complication, the NTA stated that had it issued refunds directly without this verification process, the entire refund amount would, by default, have been credited to the bank accounts of those cyber cafe operators. A dedicated 'Refund Portal' has therefore been activated specifically to safeguard candidates from such financial loss and to ensure complete transparency in the refund process.

**How Much Refund Will Be Received Based on Category?**

According to the NTA's guidelines, candidates are being refunded the full application fee amount, strictly in accordance with their respective categories. The fee structure is as follows:

General Category: ₹1,700
OBC and EWS: ₹1,600
ST, SC, and Persons with Disabilities: ₹1,000

**Mandatory: Fill in These 4 Details**

When candidates log in by clicking on the NEET UG refund link, they must enter four key details related to their bank account with extreme care. These include the Account Holder's Name, Bank Name, Account Number, and the IFSC Code of the bank branch. The NTA has also stated that, for the sake of security and accuracy, candidates may optionally upload a scanned copy of a cancelled cheque or the front page of their bank passbook. However, uploading a cheque is entirely optional and not mandatory.

**Preparations Intensify for the Re-Exam Scheduled for June 21**
While the fee refund process is currently underway on one front, the NTA has simultaneously begun preparations to conduct the re-examination. The NEET UG 2026 re-examination is scheduled to be held on June 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. As with the original exam, this examination will be conducted in offline mode—that is, using the pen-and-paper format. Students who had previously registered for this examination will not be required to pay any additional fees. Fresh admit cards for all candidates will be issued during the second week of June.
