NEET UG 2026 Cancelled: How Will Students Get Fee Refunds and How Long Will the Process Take? Full Details Here

NEET UG 2026 Cancelled: The cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination has sparked widespread anxiety among lakhs of students and parents across the country. The exam was originally scheduled to be held on May 3, 2026, but has now been cancelled following allegations of irregularities. In light of this, let us understand how students' fees will be refunded and how much time this process is expected to take.

Students Will Not Need to Re-register

One of the primary concerns among students was whether they would be required to complete the registration process all over again. The NTA has clarified that all existing registration data will be automatically carried forward for the rescheduled examination. This means that candidates will not need to fill out new application forms, re-upload documents, or re-select their examination centers. The information they have already submitted will remain valid for the upcoming examination cycle.

No Additional Examination Fee Will Be Charged

The NTA has also confirmed that students will not be asked to pay the examination fee again for the rescheduled exam. The re-examination will be conducted using the agency's internal resources; the financial burden for this will not be passed on to the candidates. This announcement has brought significant relief to the students.

The Fee Refund Process

According to the information released so far, the fees previously paid by students will be refunded directly via the same payment modes used during the registration process. If a student made the payment using online banking, a debit card, a credit card, UPI, or any other digital method, the refund is expected to be credited to that specific account. In cases where payments were made offline or via bank challans, the NTA may issue additional instructions at a later stage. The entire process typically takes between 7 to 15 days to complete; however, the NTA is expected to issue an official notice regarding the specific timeline shortly. Approximately 2.279 million candidates appeared for this examination; consequently, the refund process is likely to be completed in multiple phases. Before initiating a refund process on such a massive scale, it is essential to verify payment records, candidate details, and banking information.

One of the World's Largest Examinations

The NEET UG 2026 examination operates on a massive scale. This time, the exam was scheduled to be conducted across 5,432 examination centers located in 551 cities within India, as well as in 14 cities abroad. Over 6,000 invigilators were deployed for supervision, while 674 City Coordinators oversaw the city-level arrangements.

In fact, reports emerged just prior to the examination regarding a "guess paper" that had gone viral. Approximately 125 questions in this paper were found to match those in the actual examination paper. Following this discovery, the NTA and the government decided to cancel the examination.
