NEET PG 2026: What to do in case of a technical glitch at the exam center? NBEMS offers advice

Not much time remains before the NEET PG 2026 exam. Alongside exam preparation, candidates often have concerns regarding the exam center—specifically, what to do if there is a sudden power outage, the system locks up, or issues arise with the screen or mouse during the computer-based test. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has shared important information for candidates regarding these scenarios.

According to NBEMS, candidates need not panic if they encounter technical issues during the exam. Necessary arrangements have been made to handle such situations, ensuring that a candidate’s allotted exam time is not lost due to technical glitches.

NEET PG 2026 Exam to be held on August 30

NBEMS will conduct NEET PG 2026 on August 30, 2026. According to official data, a total of 2,73,183 candidates have successfully registered for this exam. This figure represents an increase of over 12.5 percent compared to the previous year. The exam will be conducted in a single shift across approximately 340 cities and more than 1,300 exam centers.

What to do in case of a power outage?

If a power failure occurs after a candidate has logged into the exam, the candidate does not need to take any action. According to NBEMS, the exam timer will pause immediately upon the power outage. Once the power issue is resolved, the timer will resume from the exact point where it stopped. This means there will be no reduction in the candidate’s exam time due to the technical issue.

What happens if the computer locks up?

If a candidate’s machine locks up during the exam due to a loss of connectivity with the main server, the IT manager present in the exam room will verify and unlock the candidate’s account. The exam timer will then resume from the exact point where the candidate had left off.

Report screen or mouse issues immediately

If a candidate encounters specific system issues—such as screen flickering, mouse malfunctions, or the system repeatedly locking or hanging—they must immediately inform the invigilator. According to NBEMS, upon receiving the complaint, the IT manager or invigilator will verify the candidate’s machine. If necessary, the candidate may be shifted to a ‘buffer seat’ within the same lab or a different one.

Security arrangements at exam centers

According to official information, measures such as the advance sealing and verification of exam centers, CCTV surveillance, biometric authentication, candidate frisking, and the use of signal jammers have been implemented for NEET PG 2026. Additionally, the examination setup will include live monitoring via dynamic computer systems and central/regional command centers, as well as real-time oversight by independent observers and appraisers.
