NEET PG 2025: Why was NEET PG exam cancelled? Lakhs of MBBS students are worried, what will be the impact?

NEET PG 2025: NEET PG exam was expected on 15 June 2025. NEET PG exam city slip was to be released yesterday i.e. on 02 June 2025. Candidates who had applied for NEET PG kept waiting for the same till yesterday evening. Then NBEMS informed me about the cancellation of the NEET PG 2025 exam. This information was quite shocking for the candidates preparing for the medical entrance exam, NEET PG.
NEET PG is a national-level entrance exam. Medical graduates i.e. MBBS doctors in India have to pass it for admission in MD, MS, PG Diploma, Diplomat of National Board, and other postgraduate medical courses in various government and private medical colleges. Every year the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) conducts this exam. NBEMS has not yet given information about the new date of NEET PG 2025.
Why was NEET PG 2025 cancelled?
NEET PG 2025 exam was scheduled to be held in two shifts on 15 June 2025. Then on 30 May 2025, the Supreme Court ordered it to be conducted in a single shift. To conduct the NEET PG exam in a single shift, NBEMS has to arrange about 900 additional examination centers. For this, logistical preparations need to be done on a large scale. For this reason, NBEMS decided to postpone the NEET PG exam.
When will the NEET PG exam be held?
Some social media posts and news are claiming that the NEET PG exam will be held on 17 August 2025. Let us tell you that NBEMS has not yet announced the new date of NEET PG 2025. The board has said that it will soon give information about the revised date, admit card release and exam city slip on its official website natboard.edu.in or nbems.edu.in. Candidates have been advised not to rely on informal sources.
What will be the impact of the delay in NEET PG?
The level of NEET PG is difficult. A large number of MBBS graduates apply for it. Due to the delay in NEET PG 2025, they may face many problems, but this is a golden time for those candidates whose preparation was not complete.
Extra time for preparation: The delay in NEET PG will give candidates extra time for their preparation. This can be beneficial for those whose revision was not complete.
Delay in academic session: Due to the delay in NEET PG 2025, the postgraduation course will start late. This will affect clinical training and research work.
Uncertainty in career planning: Due to the change in the exam date, candidates may face problems in their career planning, especially in choosing a specialization and institute.
Lack of resident doctors in the hospital: The delay will affect the recruitment of new batches. This will increase the workload of resident doctors already working in government hospitals. This can hurt their efficiency and mental health.
Impact on patient care: Due to the shortage of resident doctors, the quality of patient care in hospitals can be affected. This can be a big challenge for those government hospitals that are already short of staff.
Students will remain under stress: Due to repeated delays and uncertainty in NEET PG, the stress of the candidates is increasing.
Advice for NEET PG candidates
Continue preparation: Candidates are advised to continue their preparation. This will not increase the pressure suddenly when the new date of NEET PG 2025 is announced.
Pay attention to official notifications: Keep checking the latest news on the official websites of NBEMS and NMC nbe.edu.in, natboard.edu.in, nmc.org.in.
Focus on mental health: To reduce the stress caused by uncertainty, study daily as per the fixed schedule. Also, maintain a balance between exercise and rest.
