NEET Fee Refund Begins After Paper Leak Row: Students Must Complete These Steps to Claim Refund
NEET Fee Refund: Students must first visit the official NEET website. There, a link labeled “Fee Refund” or “Update Bank Details” will be visible. Subsequently, students will need to log in to the portal using their Application Number and login credentials.
NEET Fee Refund Process: Following the cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has initiated the fee refund process for students. The examination, originally held on May 3rd, was cancelled amidst controversies surrounding a paper leak and alleged irregularities; consequently, lakhs of students had been awaiting the return of their fees. The agency has now clarified that no additional fee will be charged to students for the examination, and the application fee previously deposited will be refunded.
To facilitate this, the NTA has made arrangements to provide an option to update bank account details on its official website. Students will be able to update their bank details by visiting neet.nta.nic.in, after which the fee will be transferred directly into their respective accounts. According to the agency, the refund process is expected to be completed within 24 to 48 hours of submitting the bank details.
How to Obtain the Fee Refund
To claim the fee refund, students must first visit the official NEET website. A link labeled “Fee Refund” or “Update Bank Details” will appear on the site. Students must then log in to the portal using their Application Number and login credentials. After logging in, students are required to carefully enter their bank account number, IFSC code, and the name of the account holder. Once this information is submitted, the fee will be transferred to the specified account. The NTA has advised students to exercise extreme caution while entering their bank details to avoid any errors, as mistakes could lead to delays in processing the refund.
Relief for Students Who Applied via Cyber Cafes
Many students had filled out their application forms through cyber cafes or Common Service Centers (CSCs). Consequently, these students were concerned that the refund might be credited back to the account from which the original payment was made. Addressing this concern, the NTA has clarified that candidates are permitted to update their bank account details with an account of their own choice. Students may also provide their parents’ bank account details, if they wish, to ensure that any refunds are credited to the correct account.
No Additional Fee Required for Re-Examination
The NTA has already clarified that students will not be required to re-apply or pay any additional fees for the NEET UG re-examination scheduled for June 21. The original registration will remain valid, and admit cards will be issued directly. The re-examination will be conducted in offline mode from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. More than 2.2 million students are expected to appear for the exam this time as well; while the medium of the examination cannot be changed, students were given the opportunity to change their preferred examination city.
Opportunity to Change Examination Center
Following the paper leak controversy, many students have returned to their hometowns or moved to other cities. In light of this, the NTA opened a separate window allowing students to change their examination city. Students may select a new city according to their convenience; however, the final examination center allotment will be determined based on seat availability. Meanwhile, varying fee structures were applicable to students belonging to different categories for NEET UG 2026. Candidates from the General category paid a fee of ₹1,700; OBC and EWS candidates paid ₹1,600; while SC/ST candidates paid ₹1,000. Foreign candidates were charged an application fee of ₹9,500; this amount will now be refunded.
