NEET Admission 2025: After clearing NEET 2025, the next most important step is to understand the right counseling process and be a part of it on time. Many students focus only on rank, but they do not know that there are different types of counseling for medical admission. Each counseling has its own rules, areas, and opportunities.

If you know which counseling is right for you, then the chances of getting a medical seat increase manifold. Let us know about the four major counseling processes for admission to NEET and also which one is most suitable for you.

1. AIQ Counseling (All India Quota) - For 15% seats

AIQ counseling is done at the national level, in which admission is given to 15% of seats of government medical colleges. It is organized by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC). Students from all states can participate in it. Major institutes like AIIMS, JIPMER, and some central universities also participate in this counseling process.

2. State Quota Counselling - for 85% seats

Every state conducts the admission process for its NEET-qualified students for 85% of seats. To participate in this counseling, a domicile certificate of that state or other necessary eligibility documents are required. This process takes place on the state government's medical counseling portal, which includes both government and private colleges of the state.

3. Deemed University Counselling

If a student wants medical admission to a deemed university, then he has to participate in the counselling conducted by MCC. This counseling takes place at the all-India level and the fee structure is relatively high. However, this can prove to be a good option for many students, especially for those who have a slightly higher rank but want to study in a private university.

4. Private/Management Quota Counselling
Many private medical colleges in the country conduct separate counselling for their management quota or NRI seats. This counselling is either at the state level or is conducted by the college itself. The fees for these seats are quite high and the selection depends on merit as well as the college policy. This can be an option for those students who have a very high rank but want to be admitted to private institutions.

Which counselling is right for you?

Which counselling is right for you in NEET counselling 2025 depends on your rank, state of residence (domicile), and financial status. If your rank is good (eg up to 50,000), then you should participate in both AIQ (All India Quota) and State Quota Counselling, as there is a higher chance of getting a seat in a government medical college. If the rank is a little higher, then private colleges in State Quota or Deemed Universities can be a good option, provided your financial condition is strong.

If your rank is very high (above 2 lakhs) and you are willing to study in a private college, then medical seat can be obtained through Deemed University or Management/NRI Quota. State Quota Counselling is most beneficial for students who have state domicile, as 85% of the seats are reserved for the same state. Choosing the right counselling can decide the direction of your medical career.
