What is NCERT and its full form?
The full form of NCERT is National Council of Educational Research and Training. It is called Rashtriya Educational Research and Training Parishad in Hindi. NCERT is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It was established in 1961, with the main objective of increasing and improving the quality of school education.
What does NCERT do?
NCERT does many things. Prepares the syllabus for classes 1 to 12. This is used in CBSE and many state boards in the country. It conducts research in various fields related to education and conducts training programmes for teachers, publishes teaching kits, multimedia materials, and journals. From time to time, NCERT has prepared National Curriculum Frameworks (NCF), such as NCF 2005 and recently NCF 2023, which define the objectives, principles and content of education.
In the 1970s and 80s, NCERT also started working in the field of education technology and promoted teaching through educational television programmes (ETV) and radio programmes.
