Under the new education policy 2020, art education will now be taught in schools, under which theatre, music, dance, movement, and visual arts will be taught to children in the 8th class. In this regard, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has prepared a new book, named Kriti. Along with this, NCERT has also prepared other books for children in classes 8th and 5th. Let us know what is the whole matter?

NEW Course: What is in the new course

NCERT's new book Kriti has been divided into 19 chapters on theatre, music, dance-movement, and visual arts. It also includes ancient songs and dances from all the states. The course also describes the 10th-century commentary of Kashmiri philosopher and scholar Abhinav Gupta on Bharat Muni's famous treatise Natyashastra called Abhinavbharati and the ninth rasa of Natyashastra, i.e., Shanti Rasa. Apart from this, information has been given about rhythm, konnakol, Hindustani music, Saraswati pranam, traditional and modern instruments, manuscripts, types of songs, drama, dance, etc.

Skill-based education: If teachers are not available, young artists will teach
Art education has been made a compulsory subject in the school curriculum. This means that all students of class 8 will have to study it. If there are no teachers of art education in any school, then national-level young artists will get a chance to teach there. It is not necessary to have a degree for this; rather, they will be selected based on ability and competence in their field.

Conceptual learning: 150 periods of 40 minutes of art education
The class of art education subject will be a total of 100 hours. There will be a total of 150 periods of 40 minutes. There will be four periods in a week and practicals will have to be done in the field on Saturdays. These 100 hours have been divided into the four dimensions of art, theatre, music, dance-movement, and visual art. For example, Art theatre on Monday, music on Tuesday, dance on Wednesday, visual art on Thursday, and practice in the field on Saturday.

Class 8 NCERT: Special books for class 8

NCERT has also given information about the new books for class 8 on the X handle. These include two special books:

Curiosity: This is a science book, which will increase the curiosity of children to learn.

Kaushal Bodh: This is a vocational education book, which will teach children the necessary skills for the future.

Apart from these, Malhar, Kriti, and Poorvi have also been included for class 8.

Class 5 Veena Santoor: New offering for class 5 too
