NCERT: Whether you are studying in the 10th or 12th grade under CBSE, ICSE, or a state board, you no longer need to worry about the equivalence and validity of your certificates. The government has announced that NCERT has been given this responsibility. Previously, this responsibility was with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), but now it has been removed and assigned directly to NCERT. Students will directly benefit from this, as there will be no issues with board certificates, be it college admissions or government jobs.

Previously, AIU handled the work, now the responsibility falls to NCERT.
On September 6, 2025, the Ministry of Education issued this notification in the e-Gazette. Previously, this responsibility was with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), which was assigned this task on November 15, 2021. Now, the government has removed this responsibility and assigned it directly to NCERT.

The decision will be made through the PARAKH Center.
NCERT will carry out this work through its dedicated institute, PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development). This center was established under the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). The government says that with the help of PARAKH, the process of determining the equivalence of 10th and 12th certificates across the country will be more robust and reliable.

Which boards will be subject to the new rule?
The new system will apply to the Central Government, State Governments, and all recognized school boards in India. Whether they are established by an Act of Parliament or State Legislative Assembly, run by government order, or recognized by a statutory body, NCERT's decision will be binding on all.

What will students benefit from?
Until now, students studying under different boards had to prove the equivalence of their certificates at the time of admission or employment. This was often a lengthy and cumbersome process, but now the NCERT-issued equivalency certificate will be valid nationwide. This means that if a student switches from one board to another, there will be no problems with their certificate.
