NCERT Class 9 Books: Amidst reports of a shortage of new NCERT Class 9 textbooks in several parts of the country, NCERT has taken a step to provide relief to students. The Council has announced that all new Class 9 textbooks have now been made available online to ensure that studies remain uninterrupted and students can commence their syllabus on time. In fact, with the commencement of the new academic session, printed copies of these books have not reached the market in sufficient quantities in many states. Consequently, schools are facing difficulties in initiating classroom instruction. In light of this situation, NCERT has released a digital alternative.
Books Made Available on the Online Portal
According to NCERT, students can visit the official website to download soft copies of the Class 9 textbooks. These include books for subjects such as Sanskrit, English, Mathematics, Science, Hindi, Urdu, and Physical Education. The Council states that the objective behind making the books available in a digital format is to enable students to continue their studies from anywhere and at any time, thereby preventing any delays in covering the syllabus.
Studies Hampered by Market Shortages
According to reports emerging from several states, the new textbooks are not yet readily available in bookstores. This is having a direct impact on classroom teaching. Some teachers note that while they have received the updated syllabus, the absence of physical textbooks makes it difficult to commence instruction in a systematic manner. Meanwhile, teachers at private schools have acknowledged that the online books are helpful; however, difficulties persist as not all students possess the necessary digital devices or access.
Students Continue to Face Challenges
For students residing in rural and remote areas, the online textbooks do not serve as a complete solution. Many students have reported that, due to poor internet connectivity, downloading the entire textbook is not an easy task. In some areas, students are studying by sharing PDFs via mobile phones; however, this method is not considered sufficient for regular academic learning. Even in urban areas, many students have complained that textbooks are unavailable in local markets. Furthermore, these books are being sold at high prices on online platforms. Nevertheless, the availability of books online has provided immediate relief to those students who have access to the internet and digital devices. This has prevented academic learning from coming to a complete standstill. Yet, schools and teachers maintain that printed textbooks remain essential for the long term, as not every student has access to digital resources.
Helpline Number Also Issued
The NCERT has also released a helpline number—8800440559—to assist students and teachers. Through this helpline, they can reach out to address any issues related to textbooks or their studies.
