NASA's Student Launch is an engineering competition lasting about 9 months, in which students form their own team and prepare rockets. For this, NASA gives them the help of its experts, guidelines, and necessary resources so that students can develop scientific thinking along with practical knowledge. This year's final launch will take place between 22 and 26 April 2026 in Huntsville, Alabama, where NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center is located.
Who can participate?
This competition is organized for students of grades 6-12 in the US, i.e., classes 6 to 12, and college/university students. There is a 'Student Launch Initiative Division' for school students, while there is a 'University Student Launch Initiative' for college-level students.
How can you participate?
To participate in the competition, teams have to send a proposal. Then, one by one, like NASA, one has to go through the phases of design review, preliminary design, critical design, flight readiness, and launch readiness. Only after each stage can the team go to the next round. Finally, rocket flight and data analysis are also necessary. Through post-launch review, students get a real mission-like experience.
