This year's final launch will take place between 22 and 26 April 2026 in Huntsville, Alabama, where NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center is located.

This competition is organized for students of grades 6-12 in the US, i.e., classes 6 to 12, and college/university students. There is a 'Student Launch Initiative Division' for school students, while there is a 'University Student Launch Initiative' for college-level students.

To participate in the competition, teams have to send a proposal. Then, one by one, like NASA, one has to go through the phases of design review, preliminary design, critical design, flight readiness, and launch readiness.
