Mumbai University: Mumbai University has launched a new BE degree program that incorporates a one-year embedded apprenticeship. This initiative offers engineering students the opportunity to gain practical industry experience alongside their degree. The aim is to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the skills required in the professional world. The program has been introduced under the Faculty of Science and Technology.
It aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the guidelines of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
**Internship in the 7th and 8th Semesters**
Students will undergo a one-year apprenticeship training during the seventh and eighth semesters of their final year of engineering. This training will provide them with the opportunity to work in an industrial environment and help them understand how engineering knowledge is applied to real-world projects and operations.
**42 Academic Credits to be Awarded**
During the apprenticeship, students must complete a minimum of 1,260 hours of practical training. Upon successful completion, they will earn 42 academic credits as part of the BE program. Only up to 15% of final-year BE students will be eligible to participate in the ‘Apprenticeship-Embedded BE Degree Program.’ To qualify, students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 6.75 by the end of the fifth semester.
**Selection Process for Apprenticeship**
Participation in the apprenticeship-embedded BE degree program is limited to 15% of final-year BE students. Eligibility requires a minimum CGPA of 6.75 by the end of the fifth semester. Selection will be based on merit, with priority given to students holding a higher CGPA. Students pursuing Honors, Minor, or Honors with Research programs will not be eligible for the apprenticeship track. Eligibility criteria have been established to ensure that students participating in the program can meet the course's academic and practical requirements.
