M.Tech-PhD Courses: Two new M.Tech-PhD courses to start at IIIT; admission via GATE..

The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) is preparing to launch two new MTech-PhD dual degree programs that integrate coursework with research. The institute has proposed starting these courses in 'Biomedical Analytics and Engineering' and 'Quantum Information and Technology.' Both programs will be administered by the Department of Applied Sciences, with admissions scheduled to begin in the 2027-28 academic year. Under the proposed structure, students will undergo MTech coursework during the first year. From the second year onwards, they can enroll in the PhD program and begin research work in their chosen field. A scholarship is proposed for students during the initial MTech year, and provisions are also planned for them to receive research scholarships in accordance with regulations once they reach the PhD stage.

**Plans for 40 Admission Seats**
According to the institute, 15 seats are proposed for 'Biomedical Analytics and Engineering' and 25 seats for 'Quantum Information and Technology,' making a total of 40 seats available across both programs. Admission to these courses will be based on GATE scores. This initiative will provide students from engineering and science backgrounds with the opportunity to gain expertise in new and rapidly evolving fields.

**Approval from the Senate**
The Department of Applied Sciences presented the proposed curriculum for both new programs to the Senate, which has approved the courses. Final approval from the Board of Governors is now required to launch the programs. Once approval is received, the admission process for both these M.Tech-PhD programs could begin from the 2027-28 academic session.
