The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education has introduced changes to the rules regarding internal choices in question papers for classes 9th through 12th, effective from the 2026-27 academic session. Under the new guidelines, internal choices will no longer be provided for two-mark questions in core subjects. However, this facility will remain available for three-mark and four-mark questions.

These changes will apply to examinations held during the 2026-27 academic session. The Board’s Curriculum Committee met on August 20, 2025, and subsequently, the Executive Committee approved these changes during a meeting held on August 28, 2025.

What changes for two-mark questions?
According to the new rules, students will not be provided with internal choices for two-mark, very short-answer questions in the question papers for core subjects. This means students must answer the specific questions provided.

Meanwhile, the option for internal choices will continue to be available for three-mark and four-mark questions.
Two-mark questions: No internal choice.
Three-mark questions: Internal choice provided.
Four-mark questions: Internal choice provided.
Following this change, students will need to pay special attention to preparing for the two-mark questions in their core subjects.

What are the new rules for skill-based subjects?
The Board has also modified the internal choice policy for subjects falling under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF).

According to the notification, internal choices will be provided for five-mark long-answer questions and seven-mark descriptive questions in these subjects.
This policy will also come into effect starting with the 2026-27 academic session examinations.
The Board has instructed the relevant authorities to ensure that information regarding these changes is communicated to schools and students.
