Madhya Pradesh News: Gurdeep Kaur Vasu of Indore, Madhya Pradesh cannot speak, hear and see, but this 34-year-old woman has made history by passing the 12th class board exam on the basis of her courage and passion for studies. According to the results declared by the State Board of Secondary Education on Tuesday, Gurdeep has scored 207 out of 400 marks in this exam and she has passed in second place.

Which subjects did you take the exam for?

Officials said that the first student of her kind in the educational history of the state had given the examination of English, Geography, Political Science and 'Drawing and Designing' subjects in 12th. They said that in view of Gurdeep's special condition, she was provided with a scribe during the examination as per the rules of the Board of Secondary Education. 'Anand Service Society', an NGO working for the welfare of the disabled in the city, has been helping Gurdeep in studies for the last several years.

Gurdeep talks in gestures by pressing hands and fingers

Director of the institute and expert in sign language Monica Purohit told "PTI-Bhasha" that Gurdeep communicates with a person in sign language by pressing his hands and fingers. Monica said, "We also have to press his hands and fingers in this sign language to convey our message to Gurdeep." She said that special books with Braille script were ordered from Dehradun to teach Gurdeep in 12th class.

Celebrations in Gurdeep's family

Monica said, "The special thing about Gurdeep's achievement is that the woman writer who helped Gurdeep in writing answers in the answer sheet during the 12th examination was herself deaf and mute." There is a festive atmosphere in the family of Gurdeep, who passed 12th leaving behind all physical obstacles. After the declaration of the exam results, Gurdeep's younger sister Harpreet talked to her elder sister in sign language, then the 34-year-old woman said that she wants to take admission in college while continuing with her studies and also wants to learn to operate a computer.

Harpreet said that along with her studies, Gurdeep is looking for a government job for class IV posts under the handicapped quota. She said, "Our family also wants Gurdeep to get a government job so that she can stand on her own feet."
