Changes to the examination system may be in store for students preparing for NEET-UG and CUET-UG. The Ministry of Education has drafted a proposal to conduct major entrance exams at least twice a year. Currently, JEE Main is held twice annually, whereas NEET-UG and CUET-UG are typically conducted once a year. The proposal aims to alleviate the pressure of a single exam on students and reduce their reliance on private coaching institutes. Additionally, there is a suggestion to provide specialized training to school teachers to strengthen preparation for competitive exams within schools.

**Proposal to Conduct Major Entrance Exams Twice a Year**
In June 2025, the Ministry of Education constituted a nine-member committee to deliberate on measures to reduce students' dependence on coaching institutes. In its recommendations, the committee suggested conducting major entrance exams like NEET and CUET at least twice a year. This system would provide students with two opportunities to take the exam, thereby reducing reliance on a single attempt and potentially lowering exam-related stress. However, this proposal is currently at the draft stage.

**Review of Question Paper Difficulty Levels**
The committee has also recommended a review of the process used to set entrance exam question papers. Students and parents have frequently raised concerns that certain questions are excessively difficult compared to the prescribed syllabus. The proposal emphasizes aligning the difficulty level of questions with the students' grade level and syllabus.

**Focus on State Board Syllabi**
The draft also suggests that entrance exam questions should not be restricted solely to the NCERT syllabus; the curricula taught across various states and school boards should also be taken into account. The objective is to ensure equal opportunities for students coming from diverse educational boards.

**Specialized Training for School Teachers**
The Ministry of Education has also proposed specialized training for school teachers. This initiative would enable teachers to provide guidance to students in accordance with the requirements of competitive examinations. This is expected to provide students with better academic support at the school level itself and reduce reliance on private coaching. However, final approval from the government will be required before implementing these changes.
