Medical College: Admission to medical college could be cancelled even after qualifying in NEET..
Reasons for Medical College Admission Cancellation: The NTA is preparing to release the NEET UG results by July 20, 2026. Over 20 lakh candidates are awaiting the results of the NEET UG re-examination. Many candidates and parents believe that a high score and an excellent All India Rank on the NEET merit list guarantee an MBBS seat. However, this is not the case. Every year, many candidates fail to secure admission to medical colleges despite qualifying for NEET.
In reality, the rules set by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and state counselling authorities are extremely strict. Passing the NEET UG exam is merely the first step in a long process. Subsequently, even a minor lapse during counselling, document verification, or college reporting can undo years of hard work. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the errors that can lead to the cancellation of MBBS admission, even after succeeding in NEET and being allotted a seat.
**Fraudulent Document Verification**
The most significant and common reason for the cancellation of MBBS admission is discrepancies or manipulation regarding documents. If details such as name, date of birth, or marks on 10th/12th-grade certificates, the NEET admit card, or the scorecard do not match during counselling or college reporting, the college immediately halts the admission process. Furthermore, if a student secures a seat under a specific category (such as OBC, SC, ST, or EWS) or uses a fake domicile certificate—and this is found to be fraudulent during verification—not only is the admission cancelled, but legal action is also initiated.
**Disregarding MCC Counselling Rules**
Failing to properly understand the rules during NEET UG counselling can prove costly. According to MCC regulations, if you are allotted a seat in Round 2 or Round 3 but fail to report to the college within the stipulated timeframe, your security deposit is forfeited, and you are barred from further rounds of counselling. Often, candidates seeking a seat upgrade fail to resign from their currently allotted seat in accordance with the prescribed procedure. Failure to complete formal procedures when relinquishing a seat or a violation of rules results in the candidate's name being removed from the admission process.
**Failure to Meet Class 12 Eligibility Criteria**
Many candidates achieve excellent scores in the NEET-UG exam but overlook the mandatory eligibility requirements for the Class 12 board examinations. According to NEET-UG regulations, students in the General category must secure a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) in Class 12; for reserved categories, this threshold is 40%. Even if a candidate is an All-India ranker in NEET-UG, a medical college will immediately cancel their admission if their PCB marks in the Class 12 board results fall even one mark short of the prescribed percentage.
**Failure to Pass the Medical Fitness Test**
Medical colleges conduct a comprehensive medical examination for every selected student at the time of admission to the MBBS course. To become a doctor, a candidate must be physically and mentally fit. If the examination reveals a serious physical disability or illness that violates the standards set by the Medical Council of India (now the National Medical Commission/NMC) or would prevent the candidate from practicing medicine in the future, the successful candidate's admission is cancelled.
