MBBS seats remain vacant in several private medical colleges across Rajasthan. Admissions have not yet been finalized for a total of 1,039 seats across 15 private medical colleges in the state.

Even after the completion of all three rounds of NEET-UG 2026 counseling, MBBS seats remain unfilled in several private medical colleges in Rajasthan. Admissions are still pending for a total of 1,039 seats across 15 private medical colleges. Out of the total 7,533 MBBS seats in Rajasthan, 6,494 seats have been allotted this year; this means approximately 86.2 percent of the seats have been filled, while 13.8 percent remain vacant. A dispute has also arisen between private medical colleges and the counseling board regarding these vacancies. Of the vacant seats, 731 fall under the private general medical category, while 308 fall under the private management category. Conversely, seats in government medical colleges and RAJMES-affiliated medical colleges have been fully filled. All 1,525 BDS seats have also been allotted.

Changes in the rules implemented during the third round of counseling are cited as the primary reason for the vacant MBBS seats in Rajasthan. In the previous session, after the merit list of Rajasthan domicile candidates was exhausted, candidates from other states were given an opportunity to fill the remaining seats subject to reservation rules. However, for the 2026-27 session, the counseling board amended ‘Clause XI’ of the information brochure.

Under this amendment, candidates belonging to reserved categories from other states do not receive the benefit of Rajasthan’s reservation system during the third round. Such candidates are considered for vacant seats based solely on the general category cut-off. This year, the minimum cut-off for the general category is reported to be 213. Private medical colleges state that the rule changes have resulted in a significant number of seats remaining vacant. Meanwhile, the counseling board states that the rules have been implemented in accordance with Supreme Court orders and the Rajasthan government’s reservation policy. According to the board, only candidates who are bona fide residents of Rajasthan are eligible to avail the benefits of the state’s reservation system.

Stray Vacancy Round for vacant seats

A ‘Stray Vacancy Round’ may be conducted to fill the seats remaining after the third round. In Rajasthan, this is likely to commence after October 15. Eligible candidates who did not secure a seat in the earlier phases may get an opportunity in this round. If a seat is allotted during the Stray Vacancy Round, accepting it is mandatory; failure to do so may attract a penalty as per the rules.
