There is welcome news for NEET aspirants dreaming of pursuing MBBS in Bihar. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an increase in MBBS seats across several government and private medical colleges in the state. This decision will take effect from the 2026-27 academic session, allowing more students to secure admission to medical colleges compared to the past. Additionally, two new government medical colleges are set to open in Mahua and Ara. This move will strengthen medical education in Bihar and significantly expand opportunities for students aspiring to become doctors.

**Expansion of Seats at PMCH and JLNMCH**
Admissions for the MBBS course at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) will now be conducted for 250 seats. Previously, there were 200 seats; thus, 50 new seats have been added. Meanwhile, the seat capacity at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) in Bhagalpur has been increased from 120 to 150. However, the NMC has also directed the colleges to address faculty-related deficiencies within 90 days.

**New Medical Colleges to Open in Mahua and Ara**
Preparations for launching two new government medical colleges—one in Mahua (Vaishali) and another in Ara (Bhojpur)—are in the final stages. Both colleges are expected to commence classes and the admission process from the current academic session, with an intake of 100 MBBS seats each. Furthermore, the process of increasing seats has been accelerated at Darbhanga Medical College, SKMCH Muzaffarpur, and Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College, Gaya.

**Major Approval for Private Medical Colleges**
Along with government institutions, seat capacity has also been expanded in private medical colleges. Mahabodhi Medical College and Shyam Lal Chandrashekhar Medical College in Khagaria have received approval for 100 seats each. Virat Ramayan Institute of Medical Sciences has been granted permission for 50 seats. Katihar Medical College will now offer admissions for 200 seats.

Meanwhile, admissions will be available for 250 seats each at Narayan Medical College in Sasaram and Madhubani Medical College. Students will now be admitted to 150 seats each at Mata Gujri Medical College in Kishanganj and Lord Buddha Medical College in Saharsa. This will significantly expand the scope of medical education in Bihar.
