MBBS Admission 2026: The results for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2026 have been declared. Prior to this, the National Medical Commission (NMC) had already released the MBBS seat matrix for 2026. It is anticipated that All India Quota counseling will begin in the first week of August, followed by state-level quota counseling.

**Increase of Over 9,000 MBBS Seats**
The NMC recently released the MBBS seat matrix for 2026-27, under which admissions will be granted for a total of 136,939 MBBS seats this session. These seats are distributed across 823 medical colleges, including four newly opened ones. In the previous session, counseling was conducted for 128,875 MBBS seats across 819 medical colleges.
**Scores Required for MBBS in Government Medical Colleges via State Quota Counseling**
State quota counseling for MBBS admissions is expected to begin in the states from the second week of August. What score is required for a government medical college seat under the All India Quota?
TV9 Bharatvarsh Digital spoke with Nabin Karki, a director at a private NEET coaching institute, regarding the score required for candidates to secure an MBBS seat in a government medical college under the All India Quota in NEET UG 2026. NEET expert Nabin Karki notes that while the NEET UG re-exam paper was difficult this time, the qualifying score has increased.
The NEET UG 2026 qualifying score stands at 213, which is higher than in previous years. He explains that this will also impact admissions to MBBS seats in government medical colleges; for instance, the cut-off for the General category for MBBS admission under the All India Quota could be around 565. In other words, General category candidates securing 565 marks in NEET-UG 2026 can secure an MBBS seat in a government medical college. Meanwhile, under the state quota, General category candidates can secure an MBBS seat in a government medical college with a score of 539. The cut-off under the state quota varies for each state.
