MBBS Admission 2025: NMC issues new guidelines for PwBD students, now efficiency will be the basis, not percentage..

NMC MBBS Guidelines for PwBD Candidates: Taking a big step towards making medical education more inclusive, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has released interim guidelines for MBBS admission 2025-26 session for students with physical disabilities (PwBD). This time, the percentage limit of physical disability has been removed, and now the focus will be on the functional abilities of the students.
What is the new system?
According to the new guidelines, PwBD candidates will now have to give a self-declaration clarifying their abilities. It will tell which essential tasks they can do and which they cannot, such as speaking, walking, writing, understanding medical terms, and vision-related abilities.
Candidates will have to submit this self-certified affidavit along with their Unique Disability ID (UDID) card and the investigation report of the Medical Board.
Investigation and evaluation by the Medical Board
16 designated medical boards across the country will evaluate whether the declarations made by the candidate are genuine or not. If a student is unable to perform certain tasks, the board will see if he or she can compensate for the deficiency through alternative abilities. This assessment will be done through standardized tests and tools.
According to NMC, “If a candidate declares himself or herself unable to perform certain essential tasks, the board will take a holistic view to decide whether the student can participate in the MBBS course effectively.”
Specific questions for hearing, visual, and locomotor disabilities
Students with hand disabilities will be asked: Can they feed themselves, write, or groom themselves?
Students with foot disabilities: Can they walk on level ground, climb stairs?
Visually impaired students: Can they understand verbal instructions, communicate socially, and understand medical concepts?
NEET UG Counselling 2025: To Begin From July 21
Meanwhile, NEET UG 2025 counselling for admission to MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH courses is being conducted by the MCC from July 21. The admission process will be completed on the basis of the candidates' choices, NEET scores, and the medical board's examination report. The NMC has also directed medical colleges to ensure compliance with the RPwD Act to ensure equal opportunities for PwBD students.
