Major Update on CBSE Board 2027 Datesheet: Find Out When the Timetable Will Be Released
Has the entire schedule for the CBSE Class 10 and 12 board exams changed? Amidst the wait for the datesheet, the arrival of a new chairman and the introduction of a two-board exam system have heightened students' anxiety; here is the latest update.
Students and parents are eagerly awaiting news regarding the CBSE Class 10 and 12 board examinations scheduled for 2027. The Board has not yet released an official timetable for the 2026-27 academic session. Both students and school administrations are constantly awaiting updates on the exam dates. The Board administration has advised students to rely solely on the official CBSE website for any announcements regarding the schedule.
Typically, CBSE releases a tentative schedule for its examinations well in advance. Looking at the record from the previous year, CBSE released the tentative dates for the 2026 board exams on September 24, 2025—approximately 146 days before the main exams—to ensure students had ample time for preparation.
Process for Submitting the List of Candidates is Underway
While the wait for the dates continues, administrative preparations for the board exams are in their final stages. CBSE opened the portal for submitting the online 'List of Candidates' (LOC) for the 2026-27 main examinations back in September. Schools have been instructed to accurately enter their students' personal details and subject choices into the online system. The Board has clarified that only those students whose names are submitted on time through this LOC process will be permitted to appear for the 2027 board examinations.
Board Releases Sample Papers and Marking Schemes
To assist students ahead of the announcement of exam dates, the CBSE has released sample question papers and marking schemes for all major subjects for Classes 10 and 12. These documents are available on the CBSE's official academic website. With the help of these sample papers, students can easily understand the new exam format, the types of questions asked, the marks distribution, and the evaluation methodology.
'Two-Exam' System to Continue for Class 10
The CBSE Board Exams 2027 will mark the second year of the 'two-board exam' system for Class 10 students, introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Under this rule, students get the opportunity to take exams twice a year to improve their preparation. The first board exam—serving as the main examination—is conducted during February and March. Subsequently, a second exam is held in May for students wishing to improve their scores or retake a subject; a separate schedule for this is released in April.
CBSE Gets a New Chairman
The 2027 examinations will be conducted under new leadership. Senior IAS officer Mandeep K. Bhandari has been appointed as the new Chairman of CBSE. Bhandari, a 2001-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre, assumes this role at a time when the Board is working towards major administrative reforms following challenges—such as technical glitches and cyber-attacks—encountered during the on-screen marking evaluation process in the previous session.
