CBSE Re-evaluation Process 2026 Highlights: There is significant relief in store for students anxious about their marks following the release of the CBSE Class 12 results. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a substantial reduction in fees related to re-evaluation, verification of marks, and obtaining scanned copies of answer sheets. A key highlight of this initiative is that if a student's marks increase following the re-evaluation process, the Board will refund the fee collected from them. Consequently, getting answer sheets re-examined has now become significantly easier and more affordable for students compared to the past.

**Decision to Provide Relief to Students Amidst the OSM Controversy**

This year, for the first time, CBSE implemented the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system on a large scale. Under this new framework, answer sheets were evaluated digitally; however, following the announcement of results, numerous students and parents raised concerns regarding the evaluation process. Students also took to social media to share grievances regarding lower-than-expected marks, discrepancies in scanned copies, and other evaluation-related issues. Taking these complaints and student concerns into account, the Board decided to make the post-result procedures more transparent and student-friendly. As part of this initiative, fees were reduced to ensure that the maximum number of students could avail themselves of the opportunity to have their answer sheets re-examined.

**Fees Significantly Reduced Compared to Previous Rates**

Following CBSE's new decision, students will now be required to pay only ₹100 per subject to obtain a scanned copy of their answer sheet. Previously, this service cost ₹700—meaning the Board has slashed this fee by a direct margin of ₹600. Similarly, the fee for the verification of marks has also been reduced to ₹100 per subject. Furthermore, for re-evaluation, students will now have to pay only ₹25 per question, whereas the previous fee stood at ₹100 per question. These fee reductions are being hailed as a major relief for those students who were previously unable to apply for re-evaluation due to the prohibitive cost.

**Re-evaluation Fee to be Refunded if Marks Increase**

CBSE has made another significant announcement this time around. The Board has stated that if a student's marks increase following re-evaluation, or if any error is detected in the assessment, the re-evaluation fee charged to that student will be refunded. This decision by the Board will provide relief to those students who were previously unable to opt for re-evaluation due to financial constraints.

**What is the Procedure for Re-evaluation?**

Students who are dissatisfied with their marks must first obtain a scanned copy of their answer sheet. Upon receiving the scanned copy, students should examine it carefully to check for any unassessed answers, errors in the totaling of marks, missing pages, or any other discrepancies in the evaluation process. If a student identifies any such irregularity, they may first apply for the verification of marks. Subsequently, if it appears that insufficient marks were awarded for a specific question, or if an answer was not evaluated correctly, an application for the re-evaluation of that particular question may be submitted.

**Marks May Change Following Re-evaluation**

CBSE has clarified that following re-evaluation, a student's marks may either increase, decrease, or remain unchanged. The Board has stated that the marks finalized after the completion of the review process will be considered final and binding, and all subsequent procedures will be conducted based on these revised marks.

**Lakhs of Students Requested Scanned Copies**

This time, following the implementation of the OSM (Online Marks Verification) system, a large number of students applied to view scanned copies of their answer sheets. Many students and parents harbored both curiosity and concern regarding the evaluation process. This is the reason why the Board received a record number of applications. Experts believe that measures such as making scanned copies available and reducing fees will enhance transparency in the examination process and provide students with greater clarity regarding the assessment of their answer sheets.

**Important Advice from the Board to Students**
The CBSE has appealed to students to obtain information regarding re-evaluation and verification solely from the Board's official website and official notices. Students are advised not to place their trust in any rumors or unverified information circulating on social media. The Board states that continuous efforts are being made to enhance the examination system and make it more transparent. Consequently, students who have any doubts regarding their marks now have an excellent opportunity to have their answer sheets re-examined—at a reduced fee—and to register their objections.
