Major Change in NEET UG Counselling: Admission Now Possible with Just One Visit

The MCC has implemented several new rules aimed at simplifying the admission process for students. Students seeking a seat upgrade will no longer need to make repeated visits to the medical college.

NEET UG Counselling: A significant change has been introduced in the NEET UG counselling process. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has implemented new rules to make the admission process easier for students. Students seeking a seat upgrade will no longer need to make repeated visits to the medical college. After the initial reporting, most subsequent formalities can be completed online.

Under the Central Government’s new decision, candidates are required to physically report to the respective medical college only once. Subsequently, if a student wishes to apply for a better seat in the next round, they will not need to visit the college again for document verification. Through online document verification, they can remain part of the counselling process while retaining their current seat.

Physical Reporting Required Only Once

According to the new system, if a candidate selects the ‘float’ option after being allotted a seat in the first or second round, they can secure their seat by completing online document verification. If a better seat is secured in the subsequent round, the previous seat will automatically become vacant and be allotted to another candidate. If a better seat is not obtained, the previously allotted seat will be retained. However, candidates who ‘freeze’ their seat after the third round will be required to physically report to the institute once to complete the final admission formalities. During this visit, formalities such as the verification of original documents and fee payment will be completed.

Online Withdrawal and NRI Document Verification

The MCC has also introduced online facilities within the counselling process. Candidates can now apply online via the MCC portal to surrender their allotted seat, rather than visiting the respective institute. Additionally, candidates in the NRI category have received relief. Previously, additional eligibility documents had to be sent via email, which often led to delays and technical issues. However, these documents will now be uploaded to an online portal, making the verification process faster and easier.

Counseling process to be more transparent

The government has also implemented several technical improvements this time to make the counseling process more secure and transparent. These include the use of pre-populated candidate data obtained from the National Testing Agency (NTA), seat matrices verified by the National Medical Commission (NMC), online document verification, and a cybersecurity system developed in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

24/7 helpline and email for grievances

A 24-hour toll-free helpline number (1800-102-7637) has been made available to assist candidates during the counseling process. Additionally, candidates can send emails to mcc2026@government.in to address any complaints or issues.

Enhanced facilities for PwBD candidates

Significant changes have also been introduced for candidates in the PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) category. The number of assessment centers for them across the country has been increased from 16 to 61. Furthermore, under the revised guidelines, an Appellate Disability Assessment Board has been established to ensure timely assistance for eligible candidates.
