Maharashtra: Major MPSC Decision; Department Postpones Main Exam
The state government has constituted a high-level committee to review the entire examination pattern and system. This committee is set to propose recommendations for an improved examination system soon, following consultations with students across the state.
Significant news has emerged for aspirants preparing for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exams. The Commission has issued an official letter announcing several key decisions. It has been decided that the answer sheets for the 'State Services Main Examination 2025' will undergo re-examination. Additionally, the 'State Services Main Examination 2026,' originally scheduled to begin on October 3, has been postponed.

Why will the 2025 exam answer sheets be re-examined?
Several student organizations and individual aspirants had registered strong protests regarding the results and the evaluation of marks for the State Services Main Examination 2025. The Commission had received numerous complaints concerning the evaluation process. Taking these objections and grievances seriously, the Commission decided to conduct a re-evaluation of the answer sheets for the 2025 Main Examination. Consequently, the entire process for this exam may take longer than anticipated.
Why was the Main Examination scheduled for October 3, 2026, postponed?
The state government has formed a high-level committee to review the overall examination pattern and system in the state. This committee is expected to soon submit recommendations for a better examination system after consulting with students across the state. Meanwhile, due to the unresolved issues surrounding the 2025 exam and the pending report from the new committee, students, parents, and political leaders had demanded a postponement of the exam date. In light of this, the Commission has postponed the State Services Main Examination 2026, the Maharashtra Civil Engineering Main Examination 2026, and the Maharashtra Group-B Main Examination 2026, all of which were scheduled to begin on October 3, 2026. New dates will be announced later.
Aditya Thackeray issues statement; thanks the Governor
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray has also reacted to this decision by the MPSC. Welcoming the move to postpone the exams, he expressed his gratitude to Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma. Additionally, Thackeray made a significant statement expressing his hope that the resignation of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) Chairman would also be secured as soon as possible.
