The Maharashtra government has announced that the study of Marathi will now be mandatory in all schools for classes 1 through 10. Schools must comply with this decision, or face strict action.

The Maharashtra government has implemented a new rule requiring the study of Marathi in all schools across the state. The government states that this move will promote the Marathi language and provide children with a better understanding of the state’s culture and history. Strict orders have been issued requiring all schools to adhere to this rule; the government may take stern action against any school that fails to comply.

Maharashtra’s School Education Minister, Dada Bhuse, stated that every school in the state must follow this rule. The government made it clear that studying Marathi will no longer be merely optional but mandatory. The government does not intend to limit this decision to paper alone; an inspection drive will be conducted across the state, and strict action will be taken against any school found not complying with the rule.

Issue Raised in the Legislative Assembly

This matter came up during discussions in the Legislative Assembly. Some leaders pointed out that many schools were not properly adhering to existing rules and that previous enforcement measures had not been very effective. Following these observations, the government decided to implement this rule.

Children to Study the History of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

The government announced that children will now study the complete history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The subject matter has been explained in greater detail in textbooks to ensure children better understand the sacrifices made by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Objective: Promoting Marathi Culture

This decision extends beyond just textbooks; through the language, students will have the opportunity to learn about the history of Marathi culture, which will also help foster an appreciation for that culture. Meanwhile, the CBSE is also preparing to gradually implement rules regarding a new language policy nationwide. Although students currently enrolled have been granted some relief regarding the full implementation of these rules, the CBSE may take further decisions on this matter in the future.
