Both of these schools are run under the Ministry of Education and provide quality education to millions of students across the country. However, people often wonder about their salaries.

Many government initiatives have been taken to ensure access to education for every child in India. Two of the most important are the Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. Both schools are run under the Ministry of Education and provide quality education to millions of students across the country. However, people often wonder what the difference is between the salaries of teachers working in these two institutions. Now that the 8th Pay Commission is under discussion, it is also interesting to know how much their salaries may increase after the implementation of this commission. So, let's find out which teachers receive a higher salary, Kendriya Vidyalayas or Navodaya Vidyalayas, and how much their salaries will increase after the 8th Pay Commission.

Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are specifically designed for meritorious students from rural areas. These schools are fully residential, with no fees charged. The government covers the cost of education, accommodation, food, and all necessary amenities. The environment here is known for its discipline and excellent resources. Therefore, it is considered a golden opportunity for rural talent.

Kendriya Vidyalayas are also considered among the most prestigious educational institutions in the country. They have a large network spread across the country. Students are charged a small fee, and the level of education is considered very high. Children of government employees are especially given priority in admission.

Which teachers receive a higher salary, Kendriya Vidyalayas or Navodaya Vidyalayas?

Both KVs and NVS pay salaries according to the 7th Pay Commission regulations. The pay scale for PGTs ranges from approximately Rs. 47,600 to Rs. 1,51,100 per month, meaning the pay scales are almost identical in both institutions. However, Navodaya teachers receive some additional benefits due to being a residential school. KVs have regular school hours, while NVS teachers have residential responsibilities. Therefore, many believe that NVS teachers have more benefits, while the salary is approximately the same.

How much will salaries increase after the 8th Pay Commission?

Government employees have been awaiting the 8th Pay Commission for a long time. After the Commission's formation, they are now awaiting its report, which will be submitted within 18 months. The National Council Joint Consultative Machinery (NC JCM) has sent a new suggestion to the government, which includes a family of five members: husband, wife, two children, and parents. Currently, the 7th Pay Commission model applies to only three units. The new model proposes a total of 4.2 units. This could lead to a significant increase in the minimum wage. As per the estimated fitment factor for the 8th Pay Commission, Kotak in its report has estimated a fitment factor of 1.8, i.e. an increase of about 13 per cent.
