This examination will pave the way for candidates to become Assistant Teachers in the state's primary and upper-primary schools. The application process for the JTET 2026 examination began on April 21, 2026. Candidates have until May 21, 2026, to submit their applications online. The Examination Will Be Conducted at Two Levels
The examination will be conducted at two distinct levels. Paper I is designed for individuals aspiring to teach classes 1 through 5, while Paper II is intended for candidates wishing to teach classes 6 through 8. Candidates may apply for either one or both papers, depending on their specific qualifications.
Eligibility Criteria and Age Limit for Recruitment
For the primary level (i.e., classes 1 to 5), candidates are required to have passed their Class 12 examination with a minimum aggregate score of 50 percent, in addition to holding a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education. Meanwhile, for the upper primary level—specifically grades 6 through 8—it is mandatory to hold a graduation degree along with a D.El.Ed qualification, or a B.Ed degree secured with a minimum of 50% marks. The minimum age limit for applying has been set at 21 years. Age will be calculated based on August 1, 2026. This time, a special relaxation has also been granted in the upper age limit, thereby providing an opportunity to a larger number of candidates.
Application Fee and Exam Pattern
The application fee for JTET 2026 has been determined based on the candidate's category. Candidates belonging to the General, OBC, and EWS categories are required to pay a fee of ₹1,300. Conversely, for candidates from the SC and ST categories, the fee has been set at ₹700. A fee of ₹500 has been prescribed specifically for candidates belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). The examination will consist of a total of 150 multiple-choice questions. A key feature of this examination is that there will be no negative marking. Candidates may opt for either Paper I or Paper II based on their preparation, while those aspiring to teach at both levels are eligible to appear for both papers.
