Registration for JOSAA 2025 counseling is going on. The first list of mock seat allotments has been released. Overall, the admission process for B.Tech seats in the country's top technology institutes including IITs, NITs, and IIITs is at its peak. Meanwhile, there are many questions in the minds of students regarding admission, and the question regarding the compulsory subjects in 12th for admission in B.Tech is important. In this episode, let us try to clear the confusion related to the compulsory chemistry in 12th for admission to B.Tech. The answer to this is that even without chemistry in 12th, B.Tech can be done from 108 institutes of the country from Josaa. Let us understand this whole matter in detail.

Chemistry is mandatory for admission to the IIT.

Of course, under JoSAA 2025 counseling, BTech can be done from 108 institutes of the country without chemistry in 12th, but to do BTech from all the 23 IITs of the country, it is mandatory to have chemistry in 12th. If this is not done then admission will not be given. However, in the year 2021, the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) decided this, under which compulsory chemistry was abolished, but after the uproar started, the old system was implemented again.

What is the rule of admission to IIT?

For admission to IIT, the JEE Advanced ranking is as important. Chemistry in 12th is equally important. Actually, according to the business rules prescribed for admission to IIT, the student should pass 12th with 75 marks in five subjects or should have the 20th percentile in his top 5 subjects. Chemistry should be mandatory in these 5 subjects.

Admission will be given to NIT-IT without Chemistry.

Admission cannot be taken to IIT without Chemistry in 12th, but admission can be taken at the National Institute of Technology i.e. NIT and Triple IT and other institutes (except IIT), whose number is 108. There is no rule of compulsory Chemistry in 12th to do B.Tech from all these institutes. This means that B.Tech can be done from these institutes without Chemistry in 12th.
