JNU's student union elections are likely to be held in November this year. The university has formed a grievance redressal cell to monitor them.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student union elections are likely to be held in November this year. The university has formally formed a grievance redressal cell to monitor the process. University officials stated that the elections are expected to be held in mid- or late November. According to an official circular, the elections for PhD students are expected to be held six to eight weeks after the academic session begins. The academic session began on September 12.

In a notification issued by the Dean of Students' Office, the university announced the formation of a Grievance Redressal Cell (GRC) to address issues related to the conduct of the elections. Chaired by Dean of Students Professor Manuradha Chaudhary, the cell comprises 10 faculty members and two student representatives.

The Left alliance won the top four positions in the 2024-25 elections.
The GRC is empowered to act as a "court of original jurisdiction" in electoral disputes, with the Vice Chancellor exercising appellate powers. Its authority extends to prosecuting those violating the election code, examining candidates' financial reports, and issuing summons to ensure compliance—compelling a person to appear in court to testify or present evidence.

Last year, the Left alliance maintained its dominance by winning three of the top four positions in the 2024-25 Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) elections, while the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) made a comeback after ten years, winning the joint secretary position.

Nitish Kumar (AISA) was elected president, Manisha (DSF) won the vice president position, and Munteha Fatima (DSF) secured the general secretary position. However, the ABVP achieved a major breakthrough after a decade-long drought, winning the joint secretary post with Vaibhav Meena, posing a strong challenge to the traditional Left alliance in JNU.
