In India, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is conducted annually for admission to engineering programs. As part of this process, the JEE Advanced exam is conducted for admission to the country's IIT institutions. But do you know the difference between these two exams? If not, this page will be very useful for you.
JEE Main Exam for Admission to Engineering Programs
The JEE Main exam is now conducted twice a year. Session 1 is held in January, while Session 2 is held in April. Based on the rank obtained in this exam, students can get admission to 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, approximately 26 government-funded technical institutions, and various government and private engineering colleges across the country.
Three Attempts Allowed
Students are given three attempts to take the JEE Main exam. They can take the exam once while in 12th grade and then for two consecutive years afterward. After three attempts, they are not given another chance to take the exam.
Eligibility for JEE Advanced Exam
Only those students who have appeared for the JEE Main exam and secured a rank among the top 2.5 lakh candidates are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam. Based on the rank obtained in this exam, admission is granted to engineering courses in the country's 23 IIT institutions.
There are only two attempts allowed for the JEE Advanced exam; students can take the exam once while in 12th grade and once in the year immediately following their 12th grade.
Some Other Important Information
To appear for the JEE exam, students must have completed their 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects.
The JEE exam is conducted in CBT (Computer-Based Test) mode, and a time limit of 3 hours is provided.
The JEE Main exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), while the JEE Advanced exam is conducted by a different IIT institution each year.
