Candidates who appeared for the April 2026 session exams can now view their results by visiting the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. To access their results, students will require their login credentials. What is the IIT Admission Process Following the JEE Main Result?
The admission process for IITs does not commence immediately after the JEE Main results are declared. Instead, to secure admission to an IIT, a student must first obtain a minimum of 75 percent marks in their Class 12 Board examinations. However, students belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories are required to secure a minimum of 65 percent marks.

Subsequently, students must appear for the JEE Main examination. The top 2.5 lakh candidates who achieve a high score in this exam qualify for JEE Advanced.

The JEE Advanced examination serves as the gateway for admission into the IITs.

Based on their performance in JEE Advanced, students are assigned an All India Rank (AIR). It is this rank that determines which IIT institute and which specific engineering branch a student will be allotted.

Following this comes the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling process. During this process, students select and prioritize their preferred colleges and engineering branches.

JoSAA counseling is conducted over several rounds (typically 6 or 7). Seat allotment takes place in each round. Students have the option to accept their allotted seat, choose to upgrade their preference, or wait for the subsequent rounds.

Admission to the country's 23 IIT institutes is granted solely based on the JEE Advanced results.
Once an IIT seat has been allotted, the process of document verification and fee payment ensues. Admission is formally confirmed only after the completion of all these procedures.
