Understand the Colors of the Question Palette
The Question Palette, visible on the right side of the computer screen, indicates the status of questions.
White: You haven't seen the question yet.
Red: You've seen the question but haven't answered it.
Green: You've answered, and it's been saved.
Purple: You've marked the question for review.
Green with purple: You've answered but have also saved it for review (this answer will be considered for evaluation).
Save and Next vs. Mark for Review
Some candidates make a common mistake in JEE Main or other similar online exams: forgetting to press the Save and Next button after selecting an answer. Remember, if you've selected an option but haven't clicked Save and Next, the answer won't be recorded. Use Mark for Review when you're half-assed about the answer. This allows you to return to those questions at the end without having to search for them.
Keep a close eye on the screen timer.
A 'Countdown Timer' runs on the top right of the computer screen. This indicates how much time is left before the end of the JEE Main exam. As soon as the time reaches zero, your test will automatically be submitted. You do not need to submit it manually. JEE Main 2026 candidates are advised to check the timer every hour. Navigation and Jumping to Questions
