JEE Main 2026: NTA has made identity verification mandatory for candidates; know the complete process..
JEE Main 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an important notice for lakhs of students preparing for JEE Main 2026. The agency has given specific instructions to candidates who used an identity document other than their Aadhaar card during registration. To resolve identity-related discrepancies, the NTA has established a verification process that must be completed within a specified timeframe. If candidates do not complete the identity verification on time, they may face difficulties in the further process. This information is therefore crucial for students.
Identity Verification Must Be Completed by January 15th
According to the NTA, some candidates used identity documents other than their Aadhaar card during JEE Main 2026 registration. Also, in many cases, the live photo taken during the application process did not match the photo in the UIDAI records. Therefore, the agency has instructed such candidates to undergo identity verification.
The NTA has clarified that affected candidates must verify and upload their proof of identity in PDF format by January 15, 2026. For this, candidates will also have to submit a recent photograph certified by their school or college principal/headmaster along with a signed and verified certificate. Completing this process will officially validate the candidate's identity.
Verification Now Possible Through These Officials
The NTA received complaints from some candidates that verification officers were not available in many places. Taking these complaints into account, the agency has relaxed the rules. Now, candidates can also get their identity verified by a Tehsildar, Revenue Officer, SDM, DM, or a First Class Gazetted Officer. For NRI candidates, verification can be done by a First Class Gazetted Officer of the Indian Embassy.
The JEE Main 2026 examination will begin on January 21st, while the city-wise examination details will be released in the first week of January. This examination allows students to gain admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture courses. JEE Main not only opens the door to admissions in institutions like NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs, but it also serves as the eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is required for admission to the IITs.
