JEE Main 2026: NTA clears students' confusion, calculators will not be available in the JEE exam
The NTA has issued a notification for candidates appearing for JEE Main 2026, clarifying that no candidate will be allowed to use a calculator in the exam.
No type of calculator will be allowed in the JEE Main 2026 exam, neither physical nor on-screen calculators. A typo in the NTA's notification previously stated that an on-screen calculator would be made available on computers during the exam. This information caused confusion among students. Many candidates raised questions on social media, asking whether calculators would now be available in the exam.
To address these questions and confusion, the NTA immediately issued a clarification, stating that it was a typographical error. The agency stated that the mention of an on-screen calculator was mistakenly printed in the notification. The use of any type of calculator will not be permitted in JEE Main 2026, and this remains the same.
NTA Corrects Bulletin
The NTA has now updated the information bulletin and corrected the error. The agency stated that it has issued a new copy for the convenience of candidates to avoid any confusion. The NTA has also urged students to seek information only from the official website, https://jeemain.nta.ac.in.
Confusion had previously spread among students
After the mention of an on-screen calculator in the earlier bulletin, many students thought the exam would be easier because calculators would be available for difficult mathematical calculations. However, the NTA's clarification has now clarified the situation.
Examination experts say that calculators are not always allowed in national-level exams like the JEE Main because they will not accurately assess candidates' calculation abilities. The exam tests both speed and accuracy, and the use of a calculator could upset this balance.
When will the JEE Main exam be held?
The exam will be conducted in two sessions.
The first session will be in January 2026
The second session will be in April 2026
The exam will be computer-based and will be conducted at various centers across the country. The application process is expected to begin by the end of December 2025.
