JEE Main 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has provided significant relief to lakhs of students appearing for the first session of JEE Main 2026.  Candidates whose application forms were found to have discrepancies related to their photograph or identity proof will now be given another opportunity to make corrections. The NTA issued an official notification on Friday stating that corrections can be made until January 15, 2026, in cases where a mismatch is found between the Aadhaar card and the live photograph.

Decision taken due to discrepancies between Aadhaar and live photos
According to the NTA, the online application process for JEE Main 2026 Session-1 was conducted from October 31 to November 27, 2025. During the verification process, it was found that some candidates had registered using identity proofs other than their Aadhaar cards. In such cases, the live photograph taken at the time of application did not match the Aadhaar photograph available in the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) records. This additional opportunity for identity verification has been provided for this reason.

What candidates need to do
The National Testing Agency has clarified that students who have been notified via email must upload a signed and verified certificate along with a recent photograph. Previously, this verification was only valid if done by the principal or headmaster of the school or college, but considering the students' complaints, the rules have been relaxed. Now, candidates can also get the certificate verified by a Class-I Gazetted Officer, such as a Tehsildar, SDM, DM, Revenue Officer, or, in the case of NRI candidates, a Class-I officer of the Indian Embassy.

The problem arose due to the mandatory live photo.
It is worth noting that this time, the NTA made it mandatory to upload a live photograph during the JEE Main application process. During this process, many students' photos did not match their Aadhaar records. Now, the NTA is directly sending emails to all such candidates providing information about the corrections, so that no eligible candidate's form is rejected due to technical reasons.

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exam to begin on January 21
The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 examination will be conducted between January 21 and January 30, 2026. Candidates who have successfully registered for this session are now waiting for their exam city slip. The NTA is expected to release the city slips containing exam city information soon.

Where and how to download the city slip?
Once the JEE Main 2026 exam city slip is released, candidates will be able to download it from the official website – jeemain.nta.nic.in. The city slip will inform students about the city where their exam will be held, allowing them to make necessary travel and accommodation arrangements in advance.
