Jammu & Kashmir School Summer Vacation: There is welcome news for children across the country who have been struggling with the scorching heat. While schools have reopened in states like Delhi, UP, MP, Bihar, Haryana, and Punjab following the summer break, one state has taken a remarkable decision with the children's health in mind. This state has announced a fresh round of holidays for its schools, much to the delight of the students.

This decision has been taken by the Jammu & Kashmir administration. In view of the steadily rising heat and humidity in the Jammu Division, the government has ordered the closure of all government and private schools from July 6 to July 19, 2026. While children in other parts of the country are compelled to carry heavy school bags and attend classes, students in Jammu have received an additional two weeks of holidays. Meanwhile, schools in several districts of Uttar Pradesh declared a 'rainy day' holiday today due to heavy rainfall.

**All Schools Closed in Jammu & Kashmir**

With the month of June over, schools in most North Indian states have returned to their regular schedules. Classes resumed in early July in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, and Punjab, with school buses and auto-rickshaws once again seen plying the roads in the morning. However, amidst this, the Jammu & Kashmir government has decided to close schools. The administration has made it clear that children cannot be put at risk of illness by being called to school during this life-threatening heat and the onslaught of heatwaves.

**All Schools to Remain Closed from July 6 to July 19**

According to the order issued by the Jammu & Kashmir School Education Department, all schools falling under the 'Summer Zone' of the Jammu Division will remain closed from July 6 to July 19. This order applies equally to all government and recognized private schools for classes 1 through 12. Education Department officials state that temperatures are soaring during the afternoon, posing a risk of dehydration and heatstroke to young children; this step has been taken in light of these concerns. Relief from Humid Heat

According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures in Jammu and the surrounding plains have consistently remained above 40 degrees Celsius over the past few days. It is not just the scorching sun; rising humidity levels have made the weather stifling and unbearable for residents. Under these conditions, commuting in school buses or vans and sitting for hours in non-air-conditioned classrooms was nothing short of an ordeal for children. Parents have breathed a sigh of relief following the government's decision; they maintain that health takes precedence over academics and that sending children to school in such weather posed significant risks.

What About Online Classes and Homework?
School closures do not mean that the children's education will come to a complete standstill. The Education Department has instructed schools to assign 'home assignments' or project work to keep students engaged during the break. Some major private schools are also planning to conduct online classes to bridge the 14-day gap and ensure the syllabus does not fall behind. However, the government's primary concern remains ensuring that children do not venture outdoors during the harsh afternoon heat.
