The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun—part of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)—has launched a new online training program titled 'Overview of Geographic Information System (GIS)' for students, researchers, and professionals interested in learning GIS. Participants will have the opportunity to develop a foundational understanding of GIS through this program. Features include live interactive classes, recorded lectures, a facility to ask questions, and a certificate of merit. Notably, as this training is conducted by ISRO's IIRS, participants will get the chance to learn GIS from the institute's experts.

**Live and Offline Classes**
The training will be conducted via live, interactive online sessions in accordance with the schedule set by IIRS-ISRO. Facilities will also be available to view all sessions offline at a later time. Generally, participants are required to join classes in groups through their designated nodal centers. However, with the coordinator's permission, they may also join live sessions individually using their e-class login credentials. In such cases, attendance will be automatically recorded based on their active participation in the live session. Additionally, each live class will become available on the e-class platform 24 hours after the session concludes.

**Examination and Certification Rules**
A minimum attendance of 70 percent is mandatory for course completion. Participants will be eligible to take the online examination only after meeting this attendance requirement. The date of the examination will be announced later by IIRS-ISRO. Participants who secure at least 50 percent marks in the examination will be awarded a certificate of merit by ISRO. Certificates for eligible participants will be distributed through the coordinators of their respective nodal centers.

**Application Process**
This ISRO course is scheduled to be held from October 12 to November 6, 2026. Interested participants can apply by visiting isrolms.iirs.gov.in/edusatregistration/ until midnight on October 11, 2026.
