The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched the third edition of the Indian Space Hackathon. This is a national innovation competition designed for students interested in space technology and research. Students from across the country are invited to work on real-world challenges linked to India's growing space ambitions. During the competition, participants will have the opportunity to learn directly from ISRO scientists, researchers, and domain experts through mentorship sessions. ISRO has also stated that participants may gain opportunities for internships at the space agency.

The hackathon will feature 15 challenges covering areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), climate modeling, satellite imagery, air quality monitoring, agriculture, exoplanet detection, lunar exploration, solar flare forecasting, and satellite operations.

Specific challenges include using AI and machine learning to address urban heat issues, detecting subsurface ice near the lunar south pole using Chandrayaan-2 data, forecasting solar flares using data from Aditya-L1, and developing an AI-driven digital twin of India's climate.

Who can apply?
Undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students, as well as PhD scholars and researchers, are eligible to participate in this hackathon.

Teams must consist of three to four members and may include students from different colleges or universities.

Participation is entirely free; there is no registration fee.

Registration is open until July 1
The registration process for the hackathon began on June 10 and will continue until July 1. ISRO will conduct 'problem statement explainer sessions' on June 15 and 16. The final list of teams will be announced on July 20, followed by an induction session on July 21. The grand finale of this hackathon is scheduled to take place on August 6 and 7.
