JEE Advanced Eligibility Rules: It is often assumed that only students who score exceptionally high marks in board exams can secure admission to an IIT. However, the reality is slightly different. Admission to IITs is primarily based on scores from the JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations. To gain admission to an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), students must first achieve a good score in JEE Main and subsequently qualify for JEE Advanced.

Furthermore, admission to IITs depends not only on the JEE rank but also on specific criteria related to Class 12 performance. According to the rules, a candidate must either secure at least 75% marks in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST, and PwD categories) or rank within the top 20 percentile of their respective board. This means that even if a student's board exam marks are lower than expected, they can still secure admission to an IIT if they fall within the top 20 percentile of their board.

**Strong JEE Performance Can Open Doors**
Experts note that the preparation methods for board exams and the JEE differ. There are instances where students may not score exceptionally high marks in board exams but achieve a superior rank by performing well in the concept-driven JEE examination. However, meeting the prescribed eligibility criteria remains mandatory for final selection.

**Strategy Matters as Much as Marks**
To reach an IIT, students need a solid grasp of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry alongside their Class 12 studies. A sound strategy, regular practice, and mock tests can lead to better results in the JEE.

**Message for Students**
There is no need to be disheartened if board exam marks fall short of expectations. By performing well in the JEE and understanding the eligibility criteria, students can still realize their dream of getting into an IIT.
