The campus was established in the year 2010 with an affiliate partner of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. In September 1951, the hospital was named INHS Ashwini. INHS Ashwini is the only command hospital of the Indian Navy located in the country, which trains its doctors at the PG level and nurses at various levels.
