On October 7th, 2025, there will be a public holiday in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. All government and private schools and colleges will remain closed, while grand events will be organized across the country.

Like every year, Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti will be celebrated with great reverence and faith across the country on the full moon day of the month of Ashwin. This is the day when the first poet, Maharishi Valmiki, is remembered for his immortal work, the Ramayana. Maharishi Valmiki is not only considered the father of Sanskrit literature, but he also brought the ideals of humanity, morality, and religion to society through his works.

This year, Valmiki Jayanti will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025. This sacred occasion will be marked by devotion and celebration across the country. Both the Uttar Pradesh and Delhi governments have declared this day a public holiday.

Public Holiday in Uttar Pradesh

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has declared a public holiday across the state on October 7th, marking the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki. According to the government order, all government offices, private institutions, schools, colleges, and universities in the state will remain closed on this day.

Valmiki Jayanti was already included in the annual holiday list released by the government in December 2024. However, the government has now issued an order formally confirming this.

Grand events will be organized in many cities across Uttar Pradesh on Valmiki Jayanti. Tableaus, processions, and cultural events will be held in major cities like Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Kanpur. Special awareness campaigns will also be launched to raise awareness about the life and teachings of Maharishi Valmiki.

Delhi Will Also Observe a Holiday

Similarly, the Delhi government has declared a public holiday on October 7th, marking the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made the formal announcement last Sunday.

Schools, colleges, and all educational institutions in Delhi will remain closed on this occasion. Government and municipal offices will also be closed. Processions, bhajan evenings, and cultural programs will be held in the capital to mark the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki. Valmiki temples and community centers in Delhi are being decorated, and devotees are preparing to attend in large numbers.
