Students in Bihar will now have the opportunity to earn money while pursuing their studies. The Bihar government has finalized preparations to provide the state's youth with chances to earn an income while acquiring new skills. Under this government scheme, internship facilities are being made available to students pursuing graduation at universities and their affiliated colleges across the state; those who undertake these internships will receive a monthly stipend of ₹12,300. Bihar's former Deputy Chief Minister and current Cabinet Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, has shared details regarding this initiative.

Let us understand the full scope of the matter and the specific scheme the Bihar government is implementing to enable students to earn while they study. We will also look at how this initiative could prove beneficial for the students.

**Launch from the Current Session; Students from 13 Colleges to Benefit**
The Bihar government has initiated work on this plan to provide students with opportunities to earn while studying, with preparations underway to launch the program starting from the 2026-27 academic session. Initially, the program will be rolled out in 13 colleges across the state. Third-year undergraduate students at these 13 colleges will be offered internship opportunities and a monthly stipend of ₹12,300. Subsequently, the program will be expanded to include other colleges in the state. The program will commence at the following colleges:
BN College (Patna University)
Magadh Mahila College (Patna University)
College of Commerce, Arts and Science (Patliputra University)
Ganga Devi Mahila College (Patliputra University)
JD Women's College (Patliputra University)
Bhagalpur National College (BN College): Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU)
RN College, Hajipur (BR Ambedkar Bihar University)
RSS Science College, Sitamarhi (BR Ambedkar Bihar University)
LN Dubey College, Motihari (BR Ambedkar Bihar University)

The names of the remaining colleges are yet to be released by the universities.
Internships to be provided at the college itself; an initiative to build industry-ready skills.

Under the Bihar government's scheme, third-year undergraduate students will be provided internship facilities within their own colleges; they will not need to go elsewhere for internships. Internship-providing companies will visit the colleges to offer internships to the students. Essentially, this entire initiative aims to develop industry-aligned skills among students. As part of this effort, the undergraduate curriculum has been structured to include 75% academic education (theory) and 25% skill training. Completing an internship will also make it easier for students to secure employment, as they will possess an internship certificate and can apply for jobs as experienced candidates.
