Over 600 new seats have been added across IITs nationwide, bringing the total count to 18,826; learn how this increase in seats and the introduction of new courses will significantly benefit JEE aspirants.

If you dream of studying at an IIT, this news is highly relevant for you. Major changes have been implemented across IITs this year; the number of seats has been increased, and several new courses have been launched. This will directly benefit the lakhs of students who attempt the JEE Advanced exam each year in hopes of securing admission to an IIT.

Over 600 New Seats Added Across IITs

The total number of seats across IITs has increased this year. While there were approximately 18,160 seats last year, the figure has now risen to 18,826, meaning more than 600 new seats have been made available to students.

This expansion aims to provide more eligible students with the opportunity to study at the country’s top engineering institutes. Every year, lakhs of students appear for the JEE Advanced exam, but many face disappointment due to the limited number of seats available.

Highest Increases at IIT Jodhpur and IIT Mandi

IIT Jodhpur has led the way in increasing seat capacity, adding 140 new seats. It is followed by IIT Mandi, which has added 120 seats. Additionally, several other IITs have increased their seat counts based on requirements, thereby boosting the chances of admission for more students.

18 New Courses Launched

The initiatives go beyond just increasing seat numbers; 18 new courses have also been introduced at IITs this year. These courses aim to prepare students for future demands. IIT Kanpur has launched a new course titled ‘Intelligent Systems,’ while IIT Mandi has introduced an advanced subject: ‘Quantum Science and Engineering.’ New and modern courses, such as Biomedical Engineering and Data Science, have been introduced at IIT Indore.

Focus on New Technology and Data

Technology is evolving rapidly in today’s world. Keeping this in mind, IITs have revamped their curricula; data analytics and modern technologies are now being integrated into many traditional subjects. The objective is to ensure that students not only grasp theoretical concepts but also gain a solid understanding of the new technologies utilized in the industry.

How Will Students Benefit?

Students appearing for the JEE Advanced exam stand to gain the most from these changes. An increase in the number of seats means more students will have the opportunity to secure admission to IITs compared to the past. Additionally, these new courses will offer students options to build careers in diverse fields. Beyond traditional engineering, students can now pursue careers in areas such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Science, and Biomedical Engineering.
