IIT Delhi is one of the 23 IIT institutions established in India as Centers of Excellence for training, research, and development in the fields of Science, Engineering, and Technology. According to the institute's official website, IIT Delhi is committed to fostering academic excellence by providing support to students throughout their educational journey.
IIT Delhi Scholarships
To provide financial assistance to talented students, IIT Delhi offers a diverse range of scholarships, fellowships, and other forms of aid. Some of these scholarships and fellowships are listed below:
1. Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students in Engineering and Technology, as well as to students enrolled in MA, MSc, and MPP programs. These scholarships are granted to approximately 25% of the student body whose annual family income falls within the limit of ₹8 lakh.
The current value of the Merit-cum-Means Scholarship is ₹4,000 per month. Students who receive this scholarship are also exempt from paying tuition fees. To ensure the renewal of this scholarship, students are required to maintain a minimum SGPA and CGPA of 6.0.
2. Institute Free Studentship
IIT Delhi waives the tuition fees for 10% of its students solely based on their economic status, provided that the number of students eligible for the Merit-cum-Means (MCM) scholarship exceeds 25% of the total student body.
3. Tuition Fee Exemption for SC, ST, and PwD Students
The tuition fee exemption applies to all students belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories, regardless of their parents' income.
4. Free Mess and Pocket Allowance
This covers the cost of the basic mess menu; additionally, students belonging to the SC and ST categories are provided with a monthly pocket allowance of ₹1,000 for a specified duration (depending on the program).
A student is eligible for this allowance if their family's annual income is less than ₹8 lakhs. Students are required to upload valid proof of their family's income annually.
5. Donor Scholarships
Several donor scholarships are available for undergraduate students at IIT Delhi. These scholarships are awarded based on factors such as family income, program, gender, branch, JEE rank, and academic performance (SGPA/CGPA).
These scholarships have been instituted through grants received from alumni, individuals, trusts, and organizations. Most donor scholarships are processed automatically by the Institute's Academics Department.
