IIT Madras: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has introduced the 'Science Olympiad Excellence' (ScOpE) quota for students who perform well in national and international science Olympiads. Under this, IIT Madras will increase two additional seats in each UG course for students who excel in national, and international Olympiads. This announcement was made by IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti on Monday.

Registration will start from June 3
JEE Advanced qualification will not be required under Olympiad quota admission. Two seats in each UG course will be reserved for students who excel in national, and international Olympiads. One of these seats will be reserved for female candidates. The registration process under the Olympiad quota will start on June 3. These seats will be made available from the 2025-26 academic session.

Candidates will be selected based on the Scope Rank List (SRL), which will consider the performance of the candidate in the respective Olympiad. This initiative is similar to the existing IIT Madras sports and cultural quota. Last year, IIT Madras admitted five students to its undergraduate engineering program under the sports quota.

Eligibility Criteria for IIT Madras Olympiad Quota

To be eligible for the IIT Madras Olympiad Admission Quota, candidates must be Indian citizens or OCI, PIO cardholders (issued before March 4, 2021). Additionally, candidates must have participated in any one of the following in the last four years:

International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) organized by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE)

Orientation-cum-Selection Camp (OCSC) for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology organized by HBCSE

International Informatics Olympiad Training Camp (IOITC) organized by Indian Research Association for Computer Science (IARCS).

The eligibility criteria for admission to IIT Madras under the Olympiad quota will remain the same as that of JEE (Advanced), including class 12th qualification, age limit and not having been admitted to IITs in previous years.

"The world's greatest riddles are not solved by memorizing textbooks, but by those who dare to break them piece by piece and create new wonders for future generations. With this vision, we will offer admission to our prestigious undergraduate programs to candidates who excel in Science Olympiad," said Director Kamakoti.

"We not only offer admission to those who prove their talent on the international platform of Science Olympiad; we provide a sanctuary where their insatiable curiosity will find its most fertile ground amid the delightful IITM flora and fauna," he added.

The admission process through SCOPE will not be through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) portal but on a separate portal operated by IIT Madras.
