5 Key Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech at IITs
1. Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in 12th Grade are Mandatory
The first requirement for admission to the IIT BTech program is that you must have passed your 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. General category students need 75% marks in their 12th grade, while SC/ST students need 65%.
2. Age Limit
For admission to IITs, the maximum age limit for General/EWS/OBC category candidates is 24 years. SC/ST/PwD candidates get a 5-year age relaxation.
3. JEE Main and Advanced Exams
To get admission to IITs, you first need to qualify for JEE Main. Then, students with a rank up to 2.5 lakh in JEE Main appear for the JEE Advanced exam. Final admission is based on the JEE Advanced rank.
4. Achieving a Good Rank in JEE Advanced
Simply passing the JEE Advanced exam is not enough for admission to IITs. You need to secure a very good rank. If you want admission to top colleges like IIT Bombay, Kanpur, Delhi, or Madras, you need to be among the top rank holders in JEE Advanced.
5. Limit on Attempts
There is a limit on the number of attempts for the JEE Main and Advanced exams. You get a maximum of three attempts for the JEE Main exam and a maximum of two attempts for the JEE Advanced exam.
