This is good news for millions of students studying at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The university has extended the last date for re-registration for the January 2026 session. Now, students who wish to continue their studies in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online mode courses will have more time to apply. Previously, the last date was January 15, 2026, but it has now been extended to January 31, 2026. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the convenience of the students and their difficulties.

Re-registration can be done until January 31
IGNOU has extended the re-registration process for the January 2026 session, giving students extra time. Interested students can now apply online until January 31, 2026. The university stated that many students were facing difficulties in applying on time due to technical problems and issues related to documents. The decision to extend the date was made considering these issues. The re-registration process is completely online and can be completed on the official IGNOU website, onlinerr.ignou.ac.in.

Facility for Indian and foreign students
The university has clarified that this re-registration portal is open to both Indian and foreign students. All eligible students in ODL and online mode courses can apply. A re-registration fee of Rs. 300 is required for the application. Payment can be made through debit card, credit card, or net banking.

Required documents and application process
During re-registration, students will have to upload some necessary documents. These include a passport-size photograph, signature, academic certificates, experience certificates (if applicable), and category certificates for students belonging to reserved categories. All documents should be clear and accurate to avoid any problems with the application.

What to do if there is a login problem?
Students who are already registered with IGNOU can log in using their username and password. If students do not receive the OTP, forget their password, or face any difficulties in updating their email or mobile number, they can contact their nearest regional center. Students are advised to complete the re-registration process as soon as possible without waiting until the last date and to keep a printout of the form safe for future reference.
