IGNOU PhD Admissions 2025: India's leading open university, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), has made two important announcements giving relief to its students. The university has extended the last date for re-registration for the July 2025 session, and has also started the admission process for PhD programs in 24 subjects. These steps have been taken with the aim of giving more time and flexibility to the students so that they can decide their academic plans without any pressure.
All students enrolled in IGNOU's Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online programs can now re-register till July 31, 2025. This extension has been done mainly in view of seasonal challenges like monsoon, which affects connectivity and movement in many areas.
PhD Admission 2025–26: Applications started in 24 subjects
IGNOU has started the application process for PhD programs in 24 subjects like science, management, education, humanities, and law. This is a great opportunity for students interested in research across the country. The last date to apply is 31 October. The entrance exam will be held on 5 January 2026. The exam will be held in offline mode from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Eligibility for PhD from IGNOU
General Category- At least 55% marks in Master's degree in relevant subject
Reserved Category (SC/ST)- 50% marks are sufficient
Application Fee
General Category: ₹1000
SC/ST Category: ₹800
Selection Process
First of all, shortlisting will be done based on performance in the entrance exam.
After this, an interview (viva voice) will be taken.
Only the candidates who pass the exam will be called for interview.
